Antique/Christian architecture Relics - Scala Sancta study of sacred art: figural composition as pertains to decorum and strength of meaning. architectural constructions around altars and relics IDEAS FROM ITALY - metamorphosis and identity - there is more than one art world, there is no art world: only this one. - the circular nature of art creation -- model in clay, 3d scan, model in computer, 3d print, finish or remodel-rescan, etc. ---- something that 2d artists have enjoyed forever. -- no reason that our old ethos cannot continue. Rhizome's "the download" -- a hybrid art which exists in both physical and digital form -- the way we experience art is mostly online images of physical objects. ### bibliography - "[the gods made flesh: metamorphosis and the pursuit of paganism](https://www.amazon.com/Gods-Made-Flesh-Metamorphosis-Paganism/dp/0300047428/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1504643840&sr=8-1&keywords=the+gods+made+flesh%3A+metamorphosis+and+the+pursuit+of+paganism)" - Leonard Barkin - "Roman Labyrinth Mosaics and the Experience of Motion" - Rebecca Molholt ((The Art Bulletin, Vol. 93, No. 3 (September 2011), pp. 287-303)) - "The Italians" - John Hooper - "In Other Words" - Jhumpa Lahiri - "Metamorphoses" - Ovid - "Gomorrah" - Roberto Saviano - Michaelangelo - The agony and the Ecstasy - Irving Berlin - MetMuseum catalog - Pontormo - Diario - Bernini - Tinoretto ## Places to visit - [Tempietto](https://www.britannica.com/topic/Tempietto) - Vatican - [Basilica San Clemente](http://basilicasanclemente.com/eng/) Via Labicana, 95 Open Mon-Sat, 9am-12.30pm; 3pm-6pm; Sun 12.15pm-6pm Entry fee: €10 - Domitilla Catacombs Via delle Sette Chiese, 282 Open Mon, Wed-Sun 9am-12pm, 2pm-5pm Entry fee: €8 - Hadrian’s Crypt (Mouth of Truth) Piazza Bocca della Verità, 18 Opening times for the Crypt, Mon-Sat, 10am-2pm, 3pm-5.30pm; Sun 12pm – 5.30pm Opening times the church, Daily, 9.30am-5.50pm - The Crypt of the Capuchin Friars Via Vittorio Veneto, 27 Open daily, 9am-7pm Entry fee: € 8.50 ## Visited Churches of special interest - SantaMariaDelPopolo - [[SantaMariaInTrastevere]] - SantaMariaDellaVittoria - ChiesaDiSantAgnesinAgony
