Me and My Ghost

SelfPortrait · NATO

Me and My Ghost — webcam self-portraits from 2001–2002: me at the computer, caught live through the realtime effects I was building in Max/MSP with nato.0+55 — custom, self-made generative software running on my own face. Every frame was saved the moment it happened and named for the second it was taken (ghost.2001.11.18.15.47.33); 755 of them survive in the archive. The camera as self-portrait tool and as surveillance device at once — an early precursor to the 3D self-scanning that underlies so much of my work now.

In 2022 the archive became a collection on objkt; in 2024 a set of the frames was upscaled, to take advantage of new glitches.
