RATIO
RATIO (Latin, "reckoning, account") — a studio ledger for expenses and business travel, kept one tax year at a time. Log what was spent and why, log the trips, link the two, and hand the year to the accountant as a single CSV.
(sample entries, not a real year)
What it does
- Expenses — date, vendor, category, amount and currency, an optional trip, and a note on what it was for and why it's a business cost. Eight categories: supplies & materials, travel, studio & rent, software & subscriptions, fabrication & printing, shipping, professional services, other.
- Currencies stay as paid — EUR, USD, GBP or other, recorded as spent; converting is left for the end of the year.
- Trips — destination, dates and business purpose; each trip shows how many expenses are linked to it and what they come to. Removing a trip keeps its expenses.
- One year at a time — the year picker filters everything; the strip at the top shows the three biggest categories and the year's total. The table filters by category or by trip.
- Export CSV — the year's expenses with their trips and purposes, then the category totals, then the trip list, all in one file.
The look is a ledger book: Fraunces and Inter, warm paper, hairline rules instead of cards, brick red for categories and verdigris — bronze patina — for trips. Light and dark.
Private by design
Everything stays in this browser's storage and nothing is sent anywhere. That also means it lives on one device only, and the export is the backup.
Not yet
No editing an entry (only add and delete), no receipts attached, and the totals add up the numbers as entered whatever their currency. It began as a Claude.ai artifact called Ledger, and its CSV button still uses the artifact's download hook — outside Claude.ai it opens the CSV as text instead of saving a file.
Lives in TROY/RATIO (ratio.html) — local only, not deployed.
