Story does not equal plot.
According to Aristotle drama has 6 main elements:

Plot (mythos)
Character (ethos)
Diction (lexis): speech or dialogue
Thought (dianoia): also ‘Theme’
Spectacle (opsis): visual effect (scenary, costume, etc)
Song (melos): narration (individual or chorus); musical score

Plot may be problematic in interactive fiction. But interactive media are potentially better at the other 5 narrative elements than any other media.
